Family Photos in Philly Fall 2013

Update: Now that the Christmas Photos are out, I've added photos to this - enjoy!

Hey look, I'm posting on the Family Blog!

Sorry this has been dormant: as I talked about on the Christine's World blog, I've lost some steam.  But here's the perfect post to dust off those cobwebs - Family Pictures!!

I really wanted to capture our year in Philly, so we found a photographer (Russell Photo Studio) and did it in October, in and around Washington Square, just near my house.

I don't want to give too much away, because we're using a lot of the pictures on our Christmas cards, but here's a b&w preview:

Washington D.C.

Curtis' Mom came to visit us to see Washington D.C., and we had a great time!

First Ride on the DC Metro!

Honest Abe, always a highlight

The new Martin Luther King memorial - I was happy to finally see it

One of the series of quotes at the memorial, one of my favorites

First Lady Michelle Obama's First Inaugural Ball Gown, it was beautiful to see in person at the Smithsonian Museum of American History

Something from the death of my distant relative, President Harding, back in 1923.

In front of the Washington Memorial, while it still had the scaffolding

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (the annex near Dulles) - seeing Discovery up close was a true highlight of the weekend.

And of course, some Kenny time :-)

Dog Park in Herndon

Kenny is living with Curtis in Herndon, and spends most of his days at Healthy Hound Playground, a doggy daycare.  But we made it to the local dog park and someone had a great time!  It was definitely one of the prettier dog parks we've been to.

Looking for squirrels!

Hart Family Vacay

We spent a week just a few blocks from the beach in Newport with Curtis' parents and siblings. It was probably my favorite beach destination other than Hawaii to date, we had perfect weather and swam almost every day, AND we went to Disneyland! (We were also super stressed because Curtis has class during it, and I can't be away from my dog for more than a few days at a time but we made every effort to make the best of it)

Update and What's Next?

So wow, it's July 2013!  Curtis moved to Alabama 2 years ago, where did the time go?!

(We still have a report on our Hamburg trip due, I'll try to get that up this weekend)

In the meantime, we have some planned and unplanned (not of the pregnancy variety, I know it's not just me that perks up when they hear the word "unplanned.") changes ahead!

As you may know, I (Christine) will be in Philadelphia next month for the next year.  I am still looking for a place to live but the picture is getting clearer of what I need and want.  We already have a daycare lined up for Kenny.  We will drive up there August 14-15 or so, and I start my new job on the 19th!    The biggest challenge will be what I can fit in my car to take with me, and whether I decide to ship anything as well.  I'm definitely looking forward to a new city but will feel calmer when it's all over.

I'm also in the process of moving out of my office - I have so much more stuff to take home than I ever expected after less than two years of work!

It doesn't help that two other attorneys departed recently (one became a judge and the other went "in-house"), so the recycle bins are in high demand
As for Curtis, he will stay with his job at Airbus in Mobile.  With that said, and I don't want to go into details online until we know 100% for sure, but we are starting to tell friends and family that it looks like there might be a short-term change to that plan (as to location, not company).  It's probably less exciting than it sounds as a teaser but it will simultaneously make our lives more complicated and less difficult during for at least a part of the clerkship.  Lets just say that the distance might not be so "long" this fall for us to be apart.

And as a side note, Curtis got the highest grade possible in his first two business school classes at MBA@UNC.  It was completely expected and we've very proud.  Only 7 quarters to go!

Also, a delayed happy 4th of July, from my two favorite guys (Kenny is, as we say, in "full cuteness mode," because of his cut):

Hamburg Trip

Author's note: this was not originally published in July 2013, but for the sake of continuity, blah blah blah...

Hamburg! Land of pretzels, museums, and wine festivals. Also: cold, but we had a nice time. I was lucky, I got to explore more, Curtis had to do the whole work thing. We also decided that if we have the opportunity, we could live there for a few years.
